Priory Hospital Albion House Review
Albion House is part of the large Priory Hospital network. It’s a residential treatment facility that serves men and women with complex mental health needs. Clients in the program reside in Lewisham in London. During the holistic and personalized, treatment clients learn a series of life skills in a positive environment that promotes overall wellness.
Accommodations and Food
The Albion House has 23 beds and 22 of them are private. Clients share bathrooms. Though the facility is mixed gender, the men and women sleep on opposite sides. The environment encourages community and independent living. The campus is private, however, it’s still close to several transportation hubs and local places for shopping and recreation. And while it’s technically a hospital, the living quarters are still home-like in every regard.
Common areas include the TV lounge, dining room and garden where events and social gatherings take place. A part of the program for clients is to learn how to cook for themselves and others. There are several days where clients prepare meals for each other. They eat all meals in the community dining room.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment is comprised of therapeutic activities, counseling and skills groups. Every day clients attend group therapy and have social experiences. Clients participate in discussion groups and work on their communication skills.
This program is for adults starting at age 18. Relapse and readmission prevention is a priority. Though there are wards divided by age and need, treatment encourages community interaction and experience.
During treatment clients receive medication management. Programming incorporates therapy for clients who have experienced a trauma, such as sexual or physical abuse. Treatment is also for clients with personality disorders, major mental illness or brain injury.
Life skills training includes cooking and shopping, money management and vocational training. Clinicians utilize evidence-based methods such as CBT, DBT and EMDR.
The clinical team includes a psychiatric nurse, RN, case manager, recreational therapists, occupational therapists, health care assistants and support staff.
Extras
Clients have visitation days for family and friends that coincide with events in the garden. Some holistic experiences and services offered include music and art therapy, and expressive therapies. There are also opportunities for clients to go on group trips.
There are group exercise activities daily and specialty programming options for clients who are of senior age.
In Summary
At the Albion House clients regain their confidence during treatment. They are provided with independent living skills and encourage socially and personally. The desired end result is that clients leave Albion House with the knowledge and skills to avoid relapse and return to their communities.
