New Horizon Addiction Rehab OP Overview
Based out of Nova Scotia, Canada, New Horizon Addiction Rehabilitation Center (also known as New Horizon Addiction Rehab) is a detox, residential and outpatient facility. It caters to men and women with chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. New Horizon Addiction Rehab has an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that serves as as step-down for those who have completed the residential program. Treatment consists of 12-step support, evidence-based therapeutic approaches and strength based programming.
Treatment and Staff
The facility offers several different program specialties. There is an opioid specific track, a program for alcoholics and one for cocaine users. During IOP, clients continue to attend AA or NA, as well as group and individual therapy. Clients in the opioid program have access to Medication-Aassisted Treatment (MAT). There is a track that does not use any medications to help with cravings, and there are tracks that offers Methadone and Suboxone.
IOP is nine hours a week. It consists of group therapy and psychoeducation. The treatment week is mainly in a group therapy setting. The team arranges an additional individual session to accommodate the client’s schedule once a week. During IOP there are regular drug screenings. Throughout their time in treatment, each person works with their assigned therapist to design an aftercare plan.
In addition to the weekly IOP groups, there is a taper down program for clients who have been on Methadone to control their cravings. This is open to clients who have completed the inpatient treatment or for those currently in outpatient.
Therapists use an array of treatment approaches. This includes CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and some trauma-informed care. There is also a continuance of relapse prevention techniques, and skills training.
Medical doctors, psychiatric nurses, RNs and addiction therapists make up the staff at New Horizon Addiction Rehab.
