The Basics
Whole Living Recovery is an Ohio-based, not-for-profit sober living program for adult women. Based northeast of Columbus in Newark, Ohio, Whole Living Recovery caters to women who are 18 years and older dealing with an addiction or co-occurring disorder. This includes women who are pregnant or caring for a young child. Founded on 12-step principles, Whole Living Recovery provides a safe environment but expects residents to display accountability and a desire to live in recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
The residence where clients reside while participating in Whole Living Recovery is referred to as Awakening Lane. It’s a private home in a residential neighborhood. The residence has double occupancy rooms and shared bathrooms.
Common spaces include a living room with a TV, a dining room and a kitchen. The facility is fully furnished and provides all the necessary utensils and linens. Clients are responsible for acquiring food and preparing meals.
Rules and Regulations
Incoming clients have to be clean for at least 30 days prior to move in. They must also be already attending AA meetings on a regular basis. Once they move into the facility, they have to attend a minimum of three meetings per week. They can also expect to have an initial in-depth assessment and referral by a counselor.
In order to get into Whole Living Recovery, there is an interview process with the current members of the house. Over 80 percent of them have to agree on the applicant. During their time at Awakening Lane, every client needs to be working enough to be able to cover the rent. If the client has a disability status, she is required to either work or volunteer for at least 20 hours per week. There are also educational opportunities offered, in addition help finding a permanent housing situation after they leave the residence. Whole Living Recovery also facilitates referrals to outpatient programs and assistance with job searches.
Clients have to submit to drug screenings on a weekly basis. Depending on how long they have been in the house, they must stick to their nightly curfews.
