Accommodations and Food
The 23 bed Aberdeenshire facility is situated in a peaceful, scenic area. While the residential quarters resemble a hotel, it’s actually a fully licensed, independent hospital. The bedrooms are semi-private with en suite bathrooms. They’re fully furnished and fairly spacious.
Clients enjoy a rec room with TV and some books. The campus also boasts gardens and an outdoor picnic area. House cooks prepare all meals and serve residents in a large dining room.
Treatment and Staff
One difference between this location and the other facilities associated with Detox Plus UK is the prominence of 12-step recovery. Upon admission, clients immediately learn about 12-step and then start attending on-site AA meetings daily. The treatment team also integrates evidence-based therapeutic methods such as CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), mindfulness and some expressive therapies.
The initial stage of treatment is about six weeks. During this time, clients attend daily group and individual therapy, alongside going to relapse prevention lectures and learning new life skills. They address past traumas or events that may have led to alcohol and drugs as a method of coping. Throughout this stage, clients work with the counselors to put together an aftercare plan.
Because they want clients to focus on recovery, the Aberdeenshire location does not permit personal devices, like cell phones. Clients can use a house pay phone when they are not in treatment sessions.
The staff includes medical doctors and nurses, addiction specialists and counselors trained in addiction disorders.
Extras
For aftercare, clients can either return home with a solid plan in place, or step down to the wellbeing program, which is on the same campus in a different building. This level of care is more laid back and allows more recreational time, and time outside of treatment.
In Summary
The Aberdeenshire facility of Detox Plus UK offers slightly different treatment with the same intent as other locations. While this program may be a little more strict than the others, it’s still very structured and caring. It’s an excellent place for men and women to get clean and learn how to stay that way.
