The Basics
Serenity Gardens is a short-term inpatient treatment program based out of San Jose, California. Designed for men and women struggling with addiction or chronic substance abuse, it offers detox services along with 12-step protocols and evidence-based therapeutic methods. Treatment offerings are both traditional and holistic, and each client is provided with an individualized plan that includes aftercare. Serenity Gardens prides itself on being a safe and peaceful environment with a supportive community.
Accommodations and Food
The clients of Serenity Gardens stay in a one story home in a quiet, upscale residential neighborhood in San Jose. The facility is modernly decorated and has four beds available in semi private rooms with en suite bathrooms. Clients have full beds, nightstands and closet space and are provided with all the linens and personal necessities during their stay. There is a bright, open dining room that is connected to the kitchen and a living room with mounted TV over the fireplace. The backyard has a covered outdoor cooking and dining area on the patio and shaded grassy space.
All food is prepared on-site by a chef who works with clients to create meals that are highly nutritious, to give back what their bodies have been lacking due to their addiction. In addition, clients are able to communicate their dietary restrictions or allergies upon arrival.
Treatment and Staff
In general, clients tend to stay at Serenity Gardens for about a month, though the detox process is usually anywhere from three days to a full week. During the initial detox period clients are supervised by medical professionals who are on site 24 hours a day to ensure their safety and comfort. During the first few days of detox clients are asked if they would like to participate in group therapy or activities, though it really depends on how they are feeling.
Treatment uses traditional and non-traditional approaches throughout the program. There are several group sessions per day and two individual sessions offered during the week. Clients address the situation that led to their addiction and attend relapse prevention classes, mindfulness sessions and a series of life skills classes.
Therapeutic methods used include CBT and DBT, and clients attend daily NA/AA meetings both on and off site. Though the 12 steps are a common foundation for treatment at Serenity Gardens, clients are also given the option of SMART Recovery and Refuge Recovery as alternative forms of peer support.
The staff of Serenity Gardens includes a medical director, two yoga instructors, an LMFT and LPC.
Extras
Yoga is offered during treatment and is led by a trained instructor. Additional supplemental modalities include art therapy and meditation.
Aftercare is an essential element of treatment at Serenity Gardens, and clients work with staff to put together an aftercare plan that may include more intensive residential care or an outpatient program that suits their needs.
Family members can visit every Sunday, and counseling services are available to them too.
In Summary
Serenity Gardens offers a comfortable atmosphere for the initial stages of recovery, in addition to providing a number of valuable life skills and therapy options. It’s is an excellent first step when beginning the journey into sobriety.
