The Basics
Lakeview Center of Pensacola, Florida was first established in 1954 as an agency that worked with children in need within the community. Currently Lakeview Center provides comprehensive substance abuse and co-occurring disorder programs for adolescents and adults. The adolescent track uses the trauma-informed care approach and the 12 steps within individualized treatment plans. The inpatient program known as DAART—Drug And Alcohol Residential Treatment—focuses on personal growth and education while imparting valuable life and coping skills in a supportive environment.
Accommodations and Food
Clients live on Lakeview Center’s main campus during treatment, which has a hospital-like setting with he bedrooms being double occupancy, and shared bathrooms throughout the facility. There are usually 20 to 25 clients in the residential program at one time, and through this is a clinical setting the residential facility is comfortable and accommodating.
The campus has a cafeteria, where all meals are served along with snacks, a fitness area, and activities center. In addition there are classrooms where certified teachers from the Escambia County school system conduct age level appropriate lessons throughout the clients stay.
Treatment and Staff
On average the 13 to 17 year olds in this level of care stay for up to six months, through there are some that have relapsed and need to stay in the program longer. The adolescent program focuses on trauma using evidence-based best practice approaches and explore the symptoms of trauma. In most cases, the adolescent program consists of those who were referred or placed into treatment at Lakeview due to problems in school or law enforcement. However, some are taken in by their parents.
The days consist of group therapy, recreational activities, relapse prevention and coping skills sessions. There are mindfulness exercises along with some physical exercise regularly. It is required that all young clients who are enrolled in school have to attend and complete all their assignments. There is an emphasis on personal growth and self esteem. The adolescent inpatient program at Lakeview Center is not a locked in facility, and the program is co-ed. There are a number of gender-specific programming elements, and groups that are mixed gender. Additionally, clients who have an existing dual diagnosis or are diagnosed while in the program are treated with a regimen of medications that is managed throughout their stay at the facility.
Common treatment methods include CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), DBT and EMDR. There are also opportunities for clients to have experiential and expressive therapies, including art and music therapy.
The adolescent program staff is made up of Master’s-level therapists and medical staff. There are LCSWs, CADCs, psychiatrists, medical doctors and psychiatric nurses.
Extras
Included in treatment is extensive family therapy, and aftercare. There is a step-down outpatient track for adolescents in the same facility as well as other locations associated with Lakeview Center.
