The Basics
McLean Institute is a treatment facility that offers residential care as well as outpatient programming for clients coping with both alcohol and substance use disorders. Based in Irvine, California, McLean has a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach to care that includes holistic, evidence-based, experiential and recreational therapeutic methods. The 12-step recovery model and dual diagnosis support are integral components of McLean’s programming too. It also has outpatient services around the country in Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Utah and Washington.
Treatment and Staff
McLean fosters individualized treatment programming customized to meet the individual’s specific needs and goals. Before beginning care, clients work with an addiction specialist to develop the most viable personalized solution based on a comprehensive assessment that includes addiction history, mental and physical health as well as current situation. McLean provides comprehensive Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) that are ideal for clients transitioning from residential treatment to regular life. Individuals are able to receive therapy while living at home and working. For those that require therapy without a commitment, McLean’s outpatient services include six hours of weekly group therapy and one individual session.
The team at McLean seeks to heal the “whole person” rather than simply treating symptoms. To this end, the facility employs an integrative model to treatment that includes an array of therapeutic methods including faith-based care, experiential therapy, psychoeducation classes, holistic and evidence-based modalities. Clients engage in nutrition therapy, regular one-on-one therapy and group therapy grounded in CBT as well as an introduction to 12-step. Individuals suffering from trauma are treated with EMDR.
For its staff, McLean Institute employs physicians, therapists, social workers, nurses and a nutritionist. For clients struggling with co-occurring mental illnesses, McLean offers medication management.
Extras
In terms of holistic treatments at McLean, clients can expect to engage in art therapy, yoga and meditation.
Family therapy and relapse prevention are key aspects of the McLean program. Clients and their families learn more effective communication strategies and establish proper boundaries.
