Tucson ArizonaThe Basics

Since 1968, La Frontera has provided a range of services for adults and children. Based in Tucson, Arizona, and with satellite facilities in southern New Mexico, La Frontera provides treatment for behavioral, emotional and developmental health, as well as substance abuse. The main Tucson facility provides both an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and a traditional outpatient program are available, as well as a residential substance abuse treatment programs.

Accommodation and Food

Clients are housed two or three to a room in the co-ed facility. While rooms are always gender-specific, private rooms may be available depending on how full the center is. Clients sleep in bunk beds, and have individual closet space for personal belongings.

Meals are provided, but chores are part of treatment, and clients may be expected to assist with meal preparation. Light cleaning duties are to be expected. Clients must remain on-site for the first 30 days of treatment, after which they may be granted day passes to be used for job-seeking or family visits and other essential appointments.

Treatment and Staff

Clients are assessed on intake, and an individualized course of treatment is created. The residential facility offers inpatient treatment for six months, followed by IOP or the outpatient program. Residential treatment consists of psychiatric and physical evaluations by a psychiatrist and doctor, who continue to monitor the client through their stay. Detox is available for alcohol, opiate and benzodiazepine users, and medication management is offered for clients with co-occurring disorders.

Individual and group therapy make up the majority of treatment and take up most of the client’s day. Groups focus on mood disorders, emotional well-being, parenting, relapse prevention, addiction education and building and maintaining healthy relationships. Clients are also required to attend 12-step meetings, which are offered on-site and in other locations. Transportation to and from these meetings is provided.

Upon completing the inpatient program, clients step down to the IOP or outpatient program, to gently transition them back into the community. These programs are completed at the pace that is most comfortable to the client, and consist of group therapy three to five times a week, as well as individual sessions as needed and continued contact with their case manager.

Therapists and LADCs continuously supervise clients, facilitate counseling and monitor clients 24/7. Additional resources for clients seeking work or assistance with legal matters are provided by social workers and through various community resources.

Extras

La Frontera also offers treatment plans for the families of clients. These programs consist mostly of group and individual therapy.

Crisis intervention, as well as a mobile crisis response team is able to offer psychiatric and substance abuse services. Additionally, focused sexual assault rehabilitation is available.

In Summary

La Frontera Arizona provides long-term residential treatment for adults with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. Long-term residential care has been proven to be the most effective in preventing relapse, so this environment is great for those who want to build a strong foundation for recovery. Though there is a month-long waiting list, clients are encouraged to attend outpatient groups until space becomes available. Another great feature is that most if not all of the cost of residential treatment is covered through insurance or the state of Arizona.
