Coachella CaliforniaThe Basics

The Riverside County Latino Commission provides substance abuse treatment and mental health programs for the Latino and migrant farm workers in the communities of Indio, Coachella and Riverside, California. As the only Spanish-speaking facility in Riverside county, RCLC caters specifically to the Latino community with their culturally focused programs, but all are welcome.

RCLC offers inpatient, outpatient and adolescent-specific recovery programs supported by 12-step meetings. Interventions, prevention services and educational programs are also available for the public to widen awareness of addiction and substance abuse in an under-served community.

Accommodations and Food

RCLC has two gender-specific residential programs; Casa Las Palmas—a seven-bed facility for men, and Casa Cecilia for women with six beds. The men’s house is a two-story modern Spanish-style home in a quiet residential neighborhood with an open and airy entry and lofted ceilings. Inside, furnishings are comfortable and tidy with reclining sofas and a fireplace. Casa Cecilia is a one-story stucco ranch-style home with a pleasant, arched entry. The interior has comfortable furniture and a brick fireplace.

Both houses are spacious and offer a choice of either a shared or private room (available for an extra cost). Common areas have cable TVs and Wi-Fi is available throughout. Kitchens are fully-equipped and homes have on-site laundry facilities. The front and back yards of both homes have expansive lawns ideal for outdoor recreation.

Clients are required to prepare their own meals, but all shopping is done by staff. Dietary restrictions are accommodated.

Treatment and Staff

Both inpatient and outpatient programs at RCLC begin with an assessment to develop an individualized treatment plan detailing the frequency and type of therapy best suited for each client. Treatment is 12-step based and includes individual and group counseling, family counseling and treatment for co-occurring disorders.

Clients participate in a minimum of two group sessions per week and one individual session. Group topics include relapse prevention, coping skills, the nature of addiction and independent living skills. Residential treatment requires a minimum 45 day commitment and the length of stay is dependent upon how well and how quickly the client progresses.

The outpatient program consists of two individual sessions per month and weekly group meetings. Special educational groups are available, but not mandatory. For both inpatient and outpatient treatment tracks outside 12-step meetings are encouraged, but not mandatory.

Riverside’s outpatient adolescent program is individualized and lasts anywhere from one to six months. Clients attend weekly group sessions and bi-monthly individual sessions. Education classes are also available and discuss the nature of substance abuse, anger management, coping skills and self-esteem building.

The staff at RCLC includes CSWs, CASACs, and MFTs.

Extras

RCLC also offers a range of supplemental workshops and classes for caregivers, parents and family members to support their loved one’s recovery progress. The family program meets once a week and offers both anger management workshops and parenting classes which discuss age-specific issues, discipline and communication.

Additional specialty groups are available for hearing-impaired individuals, clients with HIV/AIDS and for those who have been convicted of a DUI or DWI.

Upon successful completion of the program, clients may enroll in aftercare which entails attending one group session per week.

In Summary

Riverside County Latino Commission is a comprehensive treatment facility with a trained and professional staff offering inpatient and outpatient care for men, women and adolescents. With homey accommodations and evidence-based treatment, the Coachella valley Latino community are given every opportunity to recover.
