The Basics

Mental Health Systems is a non-profit organization that provides mental health services and substance abuse treatment programs at over 80 locations in the state of California. Founded in 1978, MHS provides educational, preventative and intervention services for individuals with financial hardship and the under-served.

Under the MHS umbrella, The Fontana Center for Change serves the Fontana community in California and specifically caters to those referred from the San Bernardino County Superior Court. FCC offers case management, mental health services and a comprehensive outpatient substance abuse program which focuses on education and on creating better opportunities for individuals convicted of drug related charges.

Treatment and Staff

FCC’s comprehensive program begins with an initial assessment and evaluation to develop an individualized treatment plan detailing the frequency and type of therapy best suited for the individual’s case. Counselors use DBT for individual, group and family therapy sessions. The 12-steps are also a core component of the program, and mandatory on-site meetings are held daily. FCC’s philosophy places heavy emphasis on education as a factor in prevention and recovery, and to this end clients participate in courses with information on addiction, substance abuse, mental health and relapse prevention. Number of sessions is dependent upon court requirements.

Case management is an integral part of the program and counselors adjust treatment plans depending on progress or effectiveness of treatment. As FCC’s client base are referrals from the drug court or those in the legal system for drug-related offenses, case management counselors also help to secure employment which is typically a legal requirement for proof of progress in recovery. The staff at FCC consists of LPCs, LADCs, LPNs and CSWs.

Extras

In addition to the outpatient substance abuse treatment program, FCC also provides mental health services and HIV/AIDS screenings, education and referrals. FCC also offers planned activities, events and holiday functions for those individuals and families in recovery in need of fun, yet sober environments.

In Summary

FCC’s outpatient services cater specifically to individuals who have been charged with drug related offenses. Using an individualized approach, DBT techniques and education on the various aspects of addiction and substance abuse, FCC aims to provide a well-rounded approach to recovery and sobriety.
