The Basics

Sacajawea Substance Abuse Counseling is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility located in Dickinson, North Dakota. The treatment program, which is 12-step based, offers individual and group therapy led by addiction specialists for adult men and women in a safe and supportive environment.

Treatment and Staff

Sacajawea provides low-intensity outpatient services that combine 12-step and evidence-based therapy methods. After each client has an initial evaluation to determine what would best suit their needs, individualized treatment plans are designed with staff. Programs can run anywhere from eight to 24 weeks depending on how much treatment the client needs and the severity of their case.

Treatment at Sacajawea generally consists of clients coming to the facility once a week for three hours and receiving both individual and group therapy. For those who have been court-ordered, regular and random drug testing is also a component of the program. Individual sessions use a range of evidence-based methods including CBT, DBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and solution-based methods. Group sessions discuss topics such as relapse prevention, coping skills, step work, anger management and recognizing problem behaviors that may lead to using. Therapists also encourage attendance at regular off-site 12-step meetings several times per week, though these are not explicitly required. Outpatient scheduling is flexible, with classes available in both the morning and afternoon.

The small staff at Sacajawea consists of LACs who are addiction specialists.

Extras

Couples therapy is available to spouses and partners of clients attending treatment. There is also an aftercare program in the form of weekly group therapy for alumni. Aftercare can last as long as clients desire (with each session billed individually).
