The Basics
Located in the LA beachside community Playa del Rey, California, Silicon Beach Sober Living is a sober living community that caters to men and women between the ages of 18 and 30. Silicon Beach’s upscale, gender-specific houses provide younger adults safe, healing environments for early recovery. Residents are encouraged, but not required, to attend Silicon Beach Outpatient treatment, work or go to school.
Accommodations and Amenities
Silicon Beach Sober Living includes five gender-specific homes, which are located in close proximity to the beach, local businesses and college campuses. The beautiful, upscale furnished homes include fully equipped kitchens, cable TV, WiFi and patios. Accommodations vary, but typically clients share lovely bedrooms with queen beds and linens. Some of the homes include swimming pools, outdoor lounge areas and a meditation room.
Residents enjoy meals prepared by an on-site chef several nights a week. Aside from that, they are responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation. A monthly community dinner is provided, so that clients can bond.
Rules and Regulations
Prior to admission, incoming clients must have a minimum of 30 days clean and sober. They must be 18 years and older and medically and psychologically stable. A 60-day minimum length of stay is required.
Upon arrival, residents are interviewed about their life goals. They are encouraged to enroll in school or apply for jobs. There is quite a bit of freedom allowed to clients, as long as they are working toward personal independence and success. Clients are encouraged to attend community recovery meetings, but no prescribed type or number of meeting is required. Other requirements include attending morning meditation, participating in a weekly one-hour session with staff and being at a weekly house meeting where residents write down weekly goals.
Residents must adhere to an 11:30 pm curfew seven days a week. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Residents who refuse a test or relapse must leave the premises to ensure the safety of the entire household. Upon request, the staff helps clients get to meetings, find sponsors and moving forward in recovery. Staff is on-site 24 hours and can also provide sober mentoring, yoga and fitness coaching.
Extras
Other services include a family program that involves a multi-family support group, life skills groups and job training class. In addition to the monthly dinner, residents participate in a variety of sober fun retreats and outings.
