The Basics
Hickory Trail Hospital is an outpatient substance abuse and co-occurring disorder treatment facility in DeSoto, Texas. Treatment programs are individualized utilizing evidence-based approaches and inpatient or ambulatory detox for adolescents and adults. There is also specialty treatment for seniors. Hickory Trail offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) that include group and individual therapy, medication management and elements of the 12 steps.
Treatment and Staff
The required assessment process is free and available seven days a week at the facility. This step takes into account past substance abuse and medical history, and from that an individualized program is implemented. Depending on the client and their chemical usage, detox may be required and can be facilitated on either an inpatient or outpatient basis. Once stabilization is achieved, or if the client comes in stable, they are placed into either the PHP or IOP. It’s common for those beginning in the PHP to step down to the IOP and aftercare planning. The PHP runs Monday through Friday for five hours a day, and the IOP is also five days a week for three hours per day. Both of these tracks are about four weeks each, but it’s not restricted to those parameters and depends on the client’s specific needs.
The facility utilizes traditional therapeutic approaches like CBT, Stages of Change, Motivational Interviewing (MI) and the 12-step philosophy along with cutting edge technologically advanced methods such as Virtual Reality (VR) treatments. Chemical dependency and dual diagnosis programs focus on relapse prevention, identifying triggers, anger management and life skills. There is also an emphasis on nutrition and wellness. The youth programs are very similar to the adult tracks with the exception of the addition of play therapy.
The programs offered at this facility are operated by a medical staff of physicians, psychiatrists, RPNs, LMFTs, LCSWs and LPCs.
