The Basics

Ocean Hills Recovery is a substance abuse treatment organization for men and women headquartered in San Juan Capistrano, California. Ocean Hills treats addiction and co-occurring disorders with a full continuum of care. Detox and therapy are offered in a clinical environment and clients reside off-site in sober living homes throughout Dana Point. Those who have completed the residential phase of care or are transitioning out of another rehab have the option to stay in one of the residences in the sober living program.

Accommodations and Food

The four gender-specific sober living homes are located in quiet, residential neighborhoods. Clients reside in semi-private bedrooms furnished with full or twin beds, closets, luxurious bedding and all linens. Adjoining bathrooms contain tubs and showers. Comfortable couches areas and modern décor create a home-like atmosphere in the houses. Some of the houses have outdoor recreation areas with amenities like a pool and ping-pong table. A staff member lives on-site at each house.

The clients are encouraged to build life skills by shopping for groceries and preparing their own breakfasts and dinners. Catered lunches are served daily during treatment at the clinical facility.

Treatment and Staff

Ocean Hills Recovery offers individualized programs for every client, with 30, 60 and 90 day residential options available. If necessary, the on-site medical detox is supervised by a physician and a nurse at the clinical facility. After about three to five days, clients who are stable move to the residential homes..

The program consists of structured therapeutic activities seven days a week. Clients receive at least 25 hours of clinical care per week with multiple group sessions a day, at least one individual session a week and required AA/NA meetings. Therapy methods include psychoeducation, CBT and DBT. Those with co-occurring disorders can expect psychological support and medication management.

Ocean Hills Recovery was founded in 2005 by Greg Doss, a certified counselor who is also in recovery. Doss still serves as the CEO. The rest of the staff is made up of an MD, LVN and clinical psychologist as well as Master’s-level therapists whose credentials include CADC and LCSW.

Extras

Holistic approaches like guided meditation, yoga, nutritional counseling, exercise and massage therapy are incorporated into treatment. Ocean Hills Recovery also offers a free family program for loved ones that includes group therapy and classes.

Clients completing their residential stay have access to the free aftercare program for up to a year. It provides clients living at home or in sober living with outpatient referrals, ongoing contact with staff, alumni activities and contact with outside support programs.
