The Basics
Houston-based Taylor Recovery Center has expanded to include a new sober living facility in a secluded location on the beautiful island of Kaui, Hawaii. The flagship location of Taylor Recovery was founded in 2011 by the husband and wife team of Kristi and Tom Taylor, who wanted to bring “California-style” sober living to Texas. It quickly expanded to include an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and is now a thriving recovery community. In 2016, the Taylors made the decision to relocate to Hawaii and open the second Taylor Recovery location.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Taylor Recovery Hawaii location is a large property overlooking the ocean with two main houses and a guesthouse. The women’s house has space for nine residents and the men’s house accommodates six. The guesthouse is reserved for live-in staff. Bedrooms are comfortably furnished with full or queen beds and dressers. Each house is well-appointed, with wood floors, granite countertops, tiled kitchens, flat screen TVs with cable access and Wi-Fi. There are free on-site laundry facilities and housekeeping services.
Meals are planned by a nutritionist and prepared by the full-time chef who can accommodate any special dietary needs or requests. The grounds include a workout room and there is a live-in fitness trainer on staff.
Rules and Regulations
Taylor Recovery Center Hawaii offers a structured program designed to help clients learn how to handle a bit of freedom and build sober life skills. There is a daily motivational meeting in the morning to help residents set recovery-oriented goals for the day. There are also a variety of services available including on-site 12-step meetings, access to therapists, scheduling and time management, relapse prevention groups, random drug testing, transportation services and referrals to health professionals such as physicians, dentists or nutritionists. Taylor’s holistic approach to recovery also includes fitness, meditation and yoga classes to encourage a mind-body connection.
Extras
This facility is in the process of getting licensed to provide residential treatment, rather than just sober living.
Like the Texas location, Taylor Recovery Hawaii is dog-friendly. The staff also arranges frequent outings and activities for clients, including surfing and beach trips, hikes and more.
In Summary
Taylor Recovery Center is a successful organization with an eye on expansion. The new Hawaii facility offers clients autonomy with plenty of support in a idyllic location near the ocean. With a full time chef and fitness trainer, those who seek to heal their bodies in early recovery will find this sober living to be a good fit. With immersion into the local recovery community and on-site 12-step meetings, residents build a foundation for lasting recovery at a bargain price. For the privacy of clients, the exact address is not disclosed.
