The Basics
Located just outside the large city of Auckland, New Zealand, Zen Wellness Retreat offers a private, upscale detox experience in a luxurious residential setting. Zen Wellness has specialized programs for all types of substance abuse and also accommodates both male and female clients with co-occurring disorders. In addition to traditional Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), the facility provides holistic treatments like acupuncture, therapeutic massage and aromatherapy.
Accommodations and Food
Zen Wellness Retreat is located in a beautiful home surrounded by nearly four acres of gardens and overlooking a mature olive grove. The five-bedroom, four bath house offers space for an intimate group of just six clients, there are well-appointed private and semi-private rooms with queen beds. The house also features a stunning outdoor lounge overlooking the valley, a modern kitchen and a TV room for games, reading and recreation.
Clients eat gourmet meals prepared by a private chef who can accommodate preferences and dietary restrictions. The menu is designed by a registered dietitian.
Treatment and Staff
A stay at Zen Wellness Retreat usually lasts 14 to 28 days, depending on the substances the client has used. Upon admission, clients are evaluated by both a physician and a psychiatrist. During the initial seven-day detox period, clients are monitored around the clock and encouraged to rest and heal. They are offered massage therapy and individual therapy daily and encouraged to attend AA/NA meetings, which are held on-site.
After the first week, clients begin CBT-based group therapy, yoga, addiction education sessions and family education evenings. The can also start attending off-site AA/NA meetings. In their last week of treatment, staff and clients work together to design an appropriate continuing care and relapse prevention plan. The staff at Zen offers to remain in regular contact via individual therapy, phone or video chat with clients for 12 months following treatment.
In addition to the psychiatric staff, the treatment team includes physicians, nurses, certified counselors and therapists. Specialized groups address co-occurring disorders and are also available for clients ending opiate addiction and those who suffer from PTSD.
Extras
Families can coordinate visits with the approval of the treatment team. As they near the completion of detox, clients are assisted in developing on ongoing recovery plan. Referrals are provided for inpatient rehab programs.
