The Basics
Based out of Boston, Massachusetts, Victory Programs is an expansive organization with a number of services for low-income and homeless men and women. Aside from a number of sober living programs, the organization also offers residential treatment for those struggling with addiction and co-occurring disorders.
Accommodations and Food
The organization has a number of inpatient programs for men and women. Those in need of stabilization services can attend either the Women’s Hope program or the Living and Recovering Community program, both housed in Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain. The programs last for 30 to 90 days with room for 20 men and women and 32 women, respectively. For longer term care, the organization also has the residential facilities Shepherd House, Victory House and New Victories with room for 32 women, 24 men and 43 men and women, respectively. The latter three programs last for four to eight months.
Though the accommodations may vary, each of the facilities features shared rooms with twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. The homes also have shared living spaces with TV and common areas. Throughout their stay, clients are served three meals a day in the hospital cafeteria or the Living Center’s dining hall.
Treatment and Staff
Before beginning a program, clients go through an initial assessment and screening to help staff members develop their individualized treatment plans. While those in the stabilization programs can receive Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) as necessary, a formal detox program is not available through Victory Programs. While the specifics of each program may vary, treatment includes both individual and group therapy rooted in evidence-based treatment practices including CBT and DBT. Group sessions cover a range of topics including relapse prevention, psychoeducation and coping skills. Dual diagnosis support is available as well. Throughout the program, residents are also required to attend regular 12-step meetings.
The staff at Victory Programs includes LCSWs, case managers, LMHCs and additional Master’s-level counselors.
Extras
Aside from the above, the organization also provides a range of support for the chronically homeless and for those with HIV/AIDS. Those who complete primary care can also continue on to one of the facility’s sober living programs as well.
In Summary
Overall, Victory Programs is a very broad organization with a number of affordable programs for homeless and low-income men and women. Treatment is evidence-based and includes dual diagnosis support and 12-step integration. Aside from its treatment programs, the organization also offers a sober living and permanent housing options. For those in the area, Victory Programs is a strong resource worth considering.
