True RecoveryThe Basics

Founded in 2014 in sunny Newport Beach, California, True Recovery bases it’s treatment on the theory that recovery should not have a “one size fits all” approach. It provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for men and women suffering from chemical dependency and co-occurring disorders. While technically an outpatient facility, clients in their first 30 days of treatment reside in True Recovery’s affiliated sober living community, The Lodges, in Costa Mesa.

Treatment and Staff

True Recovery does not offer detox but can refer clients to local facilities that do provide those services, including Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for individuals withdrawing from opiates or alcohol.

Prior to admittance, individuals receive comprehensive assessments and a psychiatric evaluation by a licensed psychiatrist. If deemed appropriate, psychotropic medications for co-occurring disorders are prescribed, as well as follow up appointments that include medication management.

True Recovery employs evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and EMDR. The program’s length is 60 days and weekly treatment includes gender-specific group therapy, which is from noon to 3 pm Monday through Friday, individual therapy and case management, which offers legal assistance for criminal justice clients.

Groups incorporate 12-step recovery, guided meditation, non-12-step-based methods, processing techniques, co-occurring disorder issues, nutrition education, life skills, addiction science education, art therapy and relapse prevention. Typically, there are no more than 10 clients per session.

The highly credentialed staff includes two psychiatrists, a registered drug and alcohol technician, therapists, a program director and a yoga instructor.

Extras

Alternative therapies offered at True Recovery include yoga, acupuncture, and Tai Chi, all designed to help clients get grounded, work out and find inner peace.

During the first 30 days of IOP, clients reside at The Lodges in Costa Mesa. While living in gender-specific condos, they become part of a sober living community. When not in treatment, residents are transported to local 12-step meetings, the gym and grocery stores so that they can practice their life skills by cooking their own meals.

Besides clinical, evidence-based counseling, clients at True Recovery receive vocational assistance. The goal is for them to leave treatment and find employment as soon as possible.

In Summary

Besides comprehensive gender-specific care, True Recovery’s compassionate and highly credentialed staff goes out of their way to offer individualized treatment and support. For clients who can’t afford the price of traditional inpatient care, True Recovery might be the next best thing.
