The Basics

Suffolk County Hauppauge Department of Community Mental Hygiene (SCH) is an outpatient substance abuse treatment facility in Hauppauge, New York operated by the Suffolk County Dept. of Health Services. Services and programs are designed to help educate the public, promote health and wellness, prevent diseases and provide care to those in need in an affordable and culturally sensitive way. As a small facility, SCH’s services are limited to a general outpatient track, with an emphasis on Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using methadone.

Treatment and Staff

Treatment at SCH is not 12-step oriented, though clients are encouraged to seek out peer-support meetings in the community. After an initial assessment, clients receive individualized treatment plans which combine methadone dosing, group and individual therapy, family therapy, medication management, relapse prevention and case management.

Both adults and adolescents are treated by a small staff of 10 professionals including licensed and certified addition counselors and LCSWs.

Extras

SCH offers its services in English as well as Spanish and offers psychiatric evaluations, vocational services and group support for gambling addiction.

In Summary

SCH provides MAT and basic outpatient treatment services to the Hauppauge community on Long Island. There are no bells and whistles here, but treatment is culturally sensitive, affordable and tailored to serve a diverse population. In an effort to make treatment accessible to all, SCH offers a sliding scale payment system, and also accepts Medicaid and private insurance.
