The Basics
Located in the Los Angeles suburb of West Hills, California, Sanctuary for Sober Living is an upscale sober living facility for women. The goal of Sanctuary is to offer its clients a comfortable, peaceful and safe place to begin their journey into recovery. Its philosophy incorporates the 12 steps and faith-based Christian principles.
Accommodations and Amenities
Sanctuary for Sober Living is a three-story, 5,000 square foot house set on a private, one-acre lot in the west end of the San Fernando Valley. The luxurious, spacious home can accommodate 12 women in private or shared bedrooms, with four shared bathrooms for all residents. There is a flat-screen TV with premium cable channels in every bedroom as well as a community TV room with plush couches and a computer with Internet. The backyard features an outdoor barbecue, pool and jacuzzi as well as an outside meditation/yoga deck with a wood burning fireplace overlooking the courtyard area.
The home also features laundry facilities, a full kitchen with a pantry and a dining room with a long table where residents share meals. Clients pay for most of their own groceries and make their breakfasts and lunches. Five dinners a week are prepared by an on-site chef and served family-style.
Rules and Regulations
A minimum three-month stay is required and clients may live in the house for up to a year provided they maintain their sobriety and submit to regular and random urinalysis tests. All women must attend daily morning meditations, weekly house meetings and at least five AA/NA meetings a week. Sanctuary also strongly encourages residents to partake in recovery-oriented activities; including reading, prayers, calling or meeting with a sponsor, or doing step work. Residents are also expected to volunteer, get a job, attend school or otherwise stay active in the community. Curfew is 10 pm on weekdays and midnight on weekends. The facility is monitored around the clock by a resident house manager.
Extras
Sanctuary for Sober Living provides its residents with a once a month spa day, which includes a facial, massage and yoga included in the monthly rent cost.
In Summary
Sanctuary for Sober Living is an upscale environment committed to helping women heal. Clients are given their fair share of independence and expected to hold down a job or attend school. The structure of Sanctuary for Sober Living is a great option for women looking for a recovery program that is less intense than inpatient but more immersed than outpatient treatment. For the safety and privacy of its clients, the exact address is not disclosed.
