The Basics
Based out of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, Sullivan House is a sober living for adult men that provides a stable environment and extended lengths of stay. The facility has been a part of Middlesex Human Service Agency since 1995. In order to attend, residents must be 18 years old and are generally referred by an outside facility.
Accommodations and Amenities
The house has a total of 25 beds available. Rooms are shared between two to four clients and come equipped with twin beds, a dresser, basic decorations and shared closet space. The home also features shared living areas with TV, a dining room and a fully-equipped kitchen. During their stay, residents are expected to prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
During the initial phase, clients undergo a two-week orientation to help them get accustomed to the rules of the house and to settle in. During this time, they also receive some case management services from staff members who help them develop a plan for living. As necessary, residents may get referrals for psychiatric or medical services as well. The program generally lasts for five-and-a-half months; during which, clients attend regular 12-step meetings as well as occasional group and individual sessions at the house. Throughout their stay, all residents are expected to secure and maintain steady employment.
Extras
Sullivan House is located near several subway and bus stops for easy transportation to local treatment and off-site meetings. The Middlesex Human Service Agency also provides treatment programs for homeless clients, including housing and a food pantry.
In Summary
In all, Sullivan House is a safe and stable environment for men in early recovery. In addition to some therapy and case management services, residents attend 12-step meetings regularly and work a job while gradually reintegrating into society. For those in the area seeking an affordable, sober living situation, Sullivan House is a resource worth considering.
