The Basics
Located in Westfield, a rural town in Northern Pennsylvania, Mountain Laurel Recovery Center is a gender-specific residential program that utilizes holistic treatment for chemical dependency. Its principles and foundations are based on the disease concept of addiction and the belief that all clients have inherent potential.
Accommodations and Food
Mountain Laurel’s facility is a 20,000 square foot, modernized estate that resides on 25 plus acres near the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon. The property provides 36 beds for its short and long-term inpatient residents. There are private and semi-private rooms available. There is no additional cost to private rooms but they are generally the last available. Meals feature a variety of foods and cuisines and are prepared by a full kitchen staff.
Treatment and Staff
Detox can be facilitated on-site for clients suffering from opiate, alcohol and benzodiazepine dependence. This phase typically lasts five days and includes 24-hour nursing care, support staff and physicians prepared to address medical needs. During this time, clients meet with counselors and recovery coaches to assist in their process. Also, clients have opportunities to attend 12-step and medical groups that help ease anxiety, teach coping skills and explain the detox process.
Treatment at Mountain Laurel Recovery Center uses evidence-based practices such as Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) and EMDR while also implementing aspects of 12-step recovery. Clients receive individual, group and family therapy. Individual sessions are scheduled a minimum of once a week but also provided on an as-needed basis. Mountain Laurel can offer dual diagnosis support.
The facility has a full medical staff that consists of addiction counselors, licensed therapists, nurses and physicians. The ratio is an average of one-to-two therapists per 12 clients in group therapy.
Extras
There is a gym on-site and clients are expected to exercise as well as participate in yoga and meditation as a regular part of treatment.
In addition to residential and detox services, Mountain Laurel Recovery Center provides extended care, a family program and intervention services.
Clients of Mountain Laurel’s extended care and transitional living programs are required to attend Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP), as well as AA/NA groups and seek sponsorship support. They must also cultivate a clean living space, attain certain goals and follow house rules. Clients in these programs advance according to three phases, each containing recovery, relational, academic/professional and wellness goals. The completion of each stage is determined by the staff.
In the family program, clients and their loved ones are encouraged to attend weekly educational and process groups to gain understanding of the breadth of addiction and its effects. It provides opportunities to articulate concerns, identify and address problems and support their family members in the recovery process.
An intervention specialist is available to guide families in the intervention and evaluation process and serve as an adviser for the best course of treatment.
In Summary
Mountain Laurel Recovery Center offers integrated and versatile services to help alcoholics, addicts and their families deal with addiction. It uses traditional treatment methods, like NA, as well as alternative practices, such as mindfulness, to lead clients to a sober and healthy life.
