The Basics
Located in Rosemead, California, Reasons Eating Disorder Center is a behavioral health facility offering treatment for eating disorders and co-occurring disorders like addiction. Aside from its outpatient and inpatient programs, the organization provides residential treatment for women in discreet homes in Pasadena and Hancock Park.
Accommodations and Food
Both the Pasadena and Hancock Park locations are six-bed homes for a total of 12 available spots for adult women. While the layouts of each home vary, all bedrooms are shared between two residents with twin or full-sized beds, dressers and shared closet space. The homes also feature shared living areas with TV, therapy rooms and fully-equipped kitchens.
During their stay, clients are served three healthy meals a day with menus designed by on-staff nutritionists and dietitians. Because food is a focus of the program, residents also spend time in the kitchen learning about the basics of nutrition and how to cook. Support for vegetarian diets is available but not for vegan diets.
Treatment and Staff
Before treatment begins, residents complete an initial assessment to help the staff develop their individualized treatment plans. Clients in need of detox can do so on-site before continuing on to therapy. As with the more intensive inpatient track, treatment runs from 7:45 am to 8:30 pm with breaks throughout the day.
Treatment consists of individual therapy three times a week as well as up to six hours a day of group therapy, both using evidence-based practices like CBT and DBT. All therapy uses a trauma-informed approach, with group sessions covering psychoeducation, relapse prevention, coping skills, nutrition education, spirituality and emotional processing. Support for co-occurring disorders is also available, which may include 12-step support for addiction. Residents also attend family therapy once a week.
In addition to psychotherapy, clients also receive holistic treatment like meditation, yoga, dance, somatic experiencing, creative writing, voice and acting lessons and art therapy. Residential programs typically lasts for four to six weeks.
The staff at Reasons Eating Disorder Center consists of MDs, LMFTs, RDs, RNs, psychiatrists, psychologists and additional Master’s and PhD-level counselors.
Extras
Aside from the above, a more intensive inpatient program is available primarily for stabilization purposes through BHC Alhambra Hospital in Rosemead. Though similar to residential care, this program offers 24-hour supervision and increased medical oversight. As mentioned, the organization provides Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) as well. Those who finish primary care can step down their treatment as a form of aftercare or get referrals to outside programs for further support.
In Summary
Overall, Reasons Eating Disorder Center is an expansive organization with individualized treatment plans for eating disorders and dual diagnoses, including addiction. All treatment uses evidence-based, holistic and trauma-informed therapy customized for each client’s needs. While the price of these programs may vary depending on the strength of insurance, Reasons Eating Disorder Center is a valuable resource for women who qualify.
