Acadia: West Lebanon Comprehensive Treatment Center

The Basics

For over five years, West Lebanon Comprehensive Treatment Center has provided outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts. It currently offers treatment plans using methadone, Suboxone and Subutex. The center also requires clients to participate in group and individual therapy while receiving their medication doses.

West Lebanon CTC is located in West Lebanon, New Hampshire, across the Connecticut River from Vermont and near White River Junction. The facility is a member of the Acadia treatment network, an international mental and behavioral health facilities providing outpatient and residential programs throughout the United States and United Kingdom.

Treatment and Staff

After clients are admitted to the program, they and the treatment team determine which course of MAT best suits their needs: methadone, Subutex or Suboxone. Clients then attend four orientation sessions to learn the policies of the clinic, addiction education and HIV prevention. While in treatment, clients must attend individual therapy at least once a month and group therapy at least once a week.

Therapy uses CBT and groups are led by CADCs. The treatment team also includes physicians and nurse practitioners. Groups explore handling triggers, relapse prevention and health topics. There are also gender-specific groups for women and men.

Clients with co-occurring disorders are referred to nearby mental health clinics for dual diagnosis support. Clients are also encouraged to seek out peer support meetings such as Methadone Anonymous or NA.

After 90 days of successful participation in therapy and clean drug screens, clients may begin applying for take-home doses of their medication. West Lebanon CTC hopes that all clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.

Extras

West Lebanon CTC encourages clients to bring family members to individual therapy if they and their treatment team think it would be beneficial. The clinic also holds a parenting skills group each week.
