South Central Human Relations CenterThe Basics

The South Central Human Relations Center of Owatonna, Minnesota, was established in 1964 as a non-profit agency that offers behavioral health services and outpatient treatment for substance abuse disorder. The dual diagnosis treatment offered includes individual and group therapy and medication management along with programs based on the 12-step philosophy.

Treatment and Staff

The outpatient dual diagnosis treatment program offered to men and women is a phased, step-down program that initially facilitates gender-specific groups. The first phase consists of groups that meet twice a week for two hours at a time for about nine weeks. The next phase has male and female clients in groups together, meeting twice a week for an additional nine weeks. The final phase is an on-going co-ed group that meets once a week for an hour. Clients can also expect weekly individual sessions.

Evidence-based treatment utilized includes CBT and DBT. Each phase also incorporates psychiatric assessments, medication management, pyschoeducation and weekly AA/NA meetings. There are also case management services to assist with every day tasks the client may have trouble managing on their own, like housing assistance and vocational training. Additionally, the program focuses on relapse prevention, coping skills, identifying triggers and cravings and anger management.

The staff of South Center Human Relations Center is comprised of medical and clinical staff with a background in addiction. Accreditations include Master’s-level LCSW, psychologist, LMFT, psychiatrist and RN.
