The Basics
Williamsport Family Medical Center has been in operation in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, since 2006. With services limited to Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for clients struggling with opioid dependence, Williamsport FMC’s approach uses methadone in combination with basic outpatient services. Clients participate in both individual and group sessions with credentialed staff who utilize evidence-based methods including CBT.
The Pinnacle provider network operates a number of outpatient and residential facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan.
Treatment and Staff
Williamsport FMC requires potential clients to have one year of dependence on heroin or other opiates. Prior to admittance, clients begin by filing out a referral form and are then put on a wait list in order to be admitted. From that point, when a spot becomes available, clients meet with a staff doctor for an intake appointment. All clients must successfully pass a urinalysis test and meet with a counselor to determine the necessary level of treatment.
Williamsport FMC employs an individualized treatment approach. Clients begin their day with dosing followed by group therapy led by licensed therapists. Individual sessions are scheduled independently with a primary counselor assigned upon admission. All clients are expected to attend a minimum of one group and one individual session per month, for at least two and a half hours of treatment.
Helping clients work toward take-home doses, Williamsport FMC staff monitor each individual’s progress and commitment to treatment, eventually allowing self-medication once they have demonstrated readiness. Additionally, clients attend substance abuse educational classes, work on the development of life skills and may also get mental health treatment if necessary (staff are qualified to provide dual diagnosis support). Clients are encouraged to attend community 12-step meetings.
Williamsport FMC has a doctor on staff as well as Licensed Substance Abuse Counselors (LSACs).
Extras
As treatment is limited to basic outpatient services, clients are encouraged to develop a strong outside support group to help sustain recovery. To this end, family therapy sessions and counseling are available and can be scheduled upon request. Referrals to more intensive treatment programs are also available.
In Summary
Having recently entered its second decade of operation, Williamsport Family Medical Center has a proven commitment to the Williamsport community. Flexible hours and a credentialed staff combined with dual diagnosis support make this Pinnacle network facility a solid choice for those seeking MAT and basic outpatient care.
