The Basics
Richmond University Medical Center (RUMC) is a healthcare facility and teaching institution on Staten Island in New York that offers an array of medical and behavioral treatment services through their Behavioral Health Department, including inpatient and outpatient mental health and substance abuse programs for children, adolescents and adults. Using evidence-based treatments, RUMC is committed to serving those in the community suffering from the consequences of alcohol and drug abuse.
Treatment and Staff
RUMC is located on Staten Island with several different locations (with behavioral health services offered in five of those). The overall goal of RUMC is to foster healthy communities by providing high-quality, compassionate and comprehensive care. Because it is also a premier academic medical center, a great deal of time and resources are devoted to educating medical professionals, clients and their families.
RUMC’s Behavioral Health Department provides care for all aspects of psychiatric problems and substance abuse, including co-occurring disorders. Clients attend therapeutic sessions one to four times per week, and medications are reevaluated monthly to ensure progress is being made. Dual diagnosis support is offered here as well as detox. Treatments include individual and group therapy using evidence-based methods like CBT as well as trauma and experimental therapy. RUMC is not a 12-step oriented facility.
RUMC’s staff are all licensed and certified processionals and include LCSWs, psychiatrists and therapists.
Extras
Because RUMC is a comprehensive medical and behavioral health program with a network of local facilities, a wide range of services are available, including medical and general health. Some branches also provide mental illness and developmental disability services. Staff are hearing-impaired friendly as well as bilingual (Spanish).
In Summary
RUMN’s Behavioral Health Department uses an individualized treatment approach using evidence-based treatments. Clients find support for substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in a safe, welcoming environment staffed with highly trained medical professionals. Private insurance, Medicaid and Medicare are accepted as well as cash payments.
