The Basics
As part of the Skyridge Medical Center, Treatment Centers XL is a chemical dependence treatment facility located in Lone Tree, Colorado. Founded in 1997, TCXL was the first facility in the US to utilize Infusion Treatment Therapy (ITT) alongside standard psychological interventions. The intention behind the ITT is to expedite recovery from Post-Acute Withdrawal Syndrome (PAWS) so clients can focus on understanding the foundational issues that contribute to their chronic substance abuse. All clients begin their journey through inpatient treatment, later stepping down to an outpatient aftercare program.
Accommodations and Food
The residential facilities are brand new and ultra-modern. Resembling a hotel, the Conifer building of SMC offers clients a comfortable living environment while they begin their recovery process. The treatment center is in the same building but separate from the living quarters. Men and women are accommodated on different wards but participate in the same treatment activities. Clients spend a total of 30 days in the residential program.
Most clients have shared rooms with one other client, but a single room may be available depending on enrollment. Beds are twin sized and comfortable with linens and pillows provided by the facility. There is a full kitchen, media room with a theatre and an on-site gym. A pool area and lounge are available as well as a billiards room for recreational use during down time.
Clients shop for their own food with their life coach who helps prepare breakfast and dinner. Cooking classes are also scheduled so clients can learn to prepare their own healthy meals. Lunch is hosted at the hospital facility during treatment. Vegetarian and vegan clients are accommodated.
Treatment and Staff
Prior to admission, clients are scheduled for a phone interview which is followed by a full bio-psycho-social assessment. The assessment process will determine the presence of co-occurring disorders and if the client needs a medically supervised detox in the hospital. TCXL uses a wide range of treatment techniques to help their clients. The program is a total of four months, one month residential and three months of aftercare with a sober living placement service available. Longer treatment plans are available if needed, including 60 day residential with six months of aftercare or a six month residential with one year of aftercare. Program duration is determined by case managers and the client.
All clients participate in the ITT. For the first 10 days, all clients are given an infusion of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that help the body recover from PAWs. After the 10 days, clients move to ITT three times a week for two weeks, then once per week for the remainder of treatment.
Typically, dopamine levels return to normal after the 10 days or within the first month of treatment. During the ITT process, clients participate in individual therapy. The clinical staff utilizes EMDR, relapse prevention and biofeedback. Group therapy is also an essential part of the process so that clients can support each other and keep one another accountable.
For the first 60 days of recovery, clients are supervised at all times by a personal recovery coach who assists with developing life skills—including shopping for groceries, exercise, 12-step meetings and more. Additional assistance for health issues and more are accommodated to ensure the client feels comfortable and cared for during their treatment process. All clients are seen by mental health professionals who are Master’s-level professionals. Credentials include LCSWs, physicians, registered nurses and LPC.
Extras
TCXL offers many extras to maximize the health and life quality of the client, including up to four sessions of alternative methods such as acupuncture and massage and one rolfing session.
Aftercare is available for clients and includes continuation of individual and group sessions for up to a year. Aftercare is individualized to the client and their recovery goals.
