The Basics
Founded in 2008 in Columbia, Maryland, Silverman Treatment Solutions provides outpatient treatment for adults suffering from chemical dependency. In addition to Intensive Outpatient (IOP) and outpatient programs, the facility offers its long-term Maintenance to Abstinence program, which includes Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) using methadone and buprenorphine, designed to ease withdrawal symptoms and assist clients during opiate detox and treatment.
Silverman Treatment Solutions operates under the Addiction Medical Solutions network, which has five additional facilities in Delray Beach, Florida; Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; and Onalaska and Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
Treatment and Staff
The length of the Maintenance to Abstinence program is a maximum of two years and requires clients to use MAT in conjunction with IOP. Upon admission, clients receive complete assessments and then decide with their doctor on the right medication for them, which is provided in patch or tablet form.
Clients receive methadone on a daily basis, while those on buprenorphine receive two doses the first week, with the first day of treatment lasting two hours. After which, clients see their doctor once a week until it is determined that they can self-administer their dose.
The IOP consists of nine weekly group sessions and psycho-educational classes, with individual and family therapy scheduled per the client’s needs. Clients are also encouraged to attend recovery support meetings like including 12-step, SMART Recovery, Celebrate Recovery, The Most Excellent Way and Refuge Recovery. All types of therapy employ evidence-based practices including CBT, Motivational Enhancement Therapy (MET) and DBT.
Group and class topics include relapse prevention, life skills, introduction to 12-step principles, intro to non-12-step recovery groups, the effect of drugs and alcohol on the brain, family dynamics, and triggers.
The IOP is scheduled during the day and in the evening, Monday through Friday. The standard outpatient parallels the IOP but is less time intensive.
Silverman treats clients with a primary diagnosis of substance abuse and chemical dependency. As such, individuals struggling with a dual diagnosis might be better served at a different facility.
The admission fee is $135. Methadone dosing is $13/day or $364/month. Buprenorphine cost varies, depending on the dose. These fees include follow-up sessions with a doctor and counseling.
Staff includes a medical director, CADCs, a dispensary nurse supervisor and administrative support.
Extras
Other services include coordination with Employee Assistance programs (EAP), unions, employers, physicians and therapists.
Silverman Treatment Solutions also provides guest dosing for out-of-state clients provided that they have the appropriate documentation and are given advanced notice from the client’s home clinic.
In Summary
Silverman Treatment Solutions offers MAT in conjunction with outpatient treatment for chemical dependency. Using a combination of evidence-based practices and peer support groups, clients are set up to transition from medication maintenance to abstinence over the course of up to two years. For those seeking a comprehensive program for opiate addiction that ends in drug-free living, Silverman Treatment Solutions is a solid option.
