The Basics
With locations in Downieville and Loyalton, California, the Sierra County Health and Human Services is a state-run organization that provides flexible outpatient treatment for addiction and mental health. Though priority is granted to perinatal women, the facility is co-ed and provides a wide range of affordable and individualized services.
Treatment and Staff
Upon intake, clients undergo an initial assessment to help staff members determine their needs. Treatment consists of individual and group therapy that uses evidence-based practices, such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Clients may also attend 12-step meetings, which are offered on site, but it is not always required. Support for co-occurring disorders is provided through additional therapy, nursing support, case management and medication management, if necessary.
The staff at Sierra County Mental Health and Human Services consists of LMFTs, LCSWs, RNs, state-certified drug and alcohol counselors and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Aside from the above, the facility also provides specific peer support groups for veterans, alcohol and drug assessments, mental health assessments and referral services for detox and/or residential treatment. Standalone mental health and family counseling is also available.
As mentioned, Sierra County Health and Human Services hosts regular AA/NA meetings listed here.
Clients in need of aftercare can continue attending outpatient therapy at a stepped-down rate with an emphasis on relapse prevention.
