Based out of Pikeville, Kentucky, WestCare Kentucky’s Pike County Detention Center services provide inpatient treatment for men and women who are incarcerated at separate wings of the Pike County Detention Center. Both are run by WestCare Kentucky, an expansive non-profit that provides a number of behavioral health programs to residents.

Accommodations and Food

These programs are available to both men and women with 68 and 16 beds available, respectively. Because both programs are only offered in the actual jail facilities, accommodations are spartan and consist of shared cells in gender-separated wings. However, the Pike County Detention Center has all the necessities to support clients throughout their stay— including laundry facilities, exercise equipment and meeting rooms. As expected, residents also receive three meals a day.

Treatment and Staff

While the men’s and women’s programs differ in terms of gender-specific topics, both include individual and group therapy that employs evidence-based practices, such as CBT and DBT, as well as 12-step principles. Groups discuss addiction as a disease, relapse prevention, life skills, vocational skills and anger management. While clients with mild co-occurring disorders may be fully treated here, those with a more severe dual diagnosis are encouraged to seek additional help once they leave the program. Programs generally last six months.

The staff at WestCare Kentucky Pike County Detention Center Services consists of CADCs, LCSWs and other state-certified, Master’s-level counselors.

Extras

Once clients complete the program, they can work with case managers and re-entry coordinators to help them find jobs, places to live and aftercare. The latter may include referrals to outside programs as well as residential or outpatient care through one of WestCare Kentucky’s other facilities.

In Summary

In all, WestCare Kentucky’s Pike County Detention Center Services are a thorough and valuable resource for incarcerated men and women struggling with addition. Treatment includes both evidence-based care, educational sessions and 12-step recovery, with additional support available to help residents reintegrate after discharge. Although a niche option, WestCare Kentucky’s Pike County Detention Center Services remains a valuable resource for those who qualify.
