The Basics
Recovery Works Columbus opened in September 2016 to provide detox and residential substance abuse treatment to the residents of Central Ohio. The treatment program incorporates therapy using evidence-based methods and education classes to help clients progress in recovery. RWC also plans to open an outpatient program later this year.
Recovery Works is a member of the Pinnacle provider network which operates a group of outpatient and residential facilities throughout Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Virginia, Ohio, Minnesota and Michigan.
Accommodations and Food
The brick treatment facility has been recently renovated and features a tasteful, modern décor. Clients usually have a roommate and bathrooms are shared between two rooms. The facility has 32 beds and men and women reside in separate gender-specific sections of the housing wing.
During down-time, residents can partake in recreational activities such as ping-pong and board games in the common recreation room. The facility also has a TV room and exercise equipment. A kitchen staff prepares standard American fare, and staff often take residents on excursions to the local park and library.
Treatment and Staff
Detox usually lasts five to 10 days, and residents can attend classes, groups and 12-step meetings as their health permits. Once they transition to residential treatment, which lasts 14 to 28 days, clients have full days of psychoeducation classes on addiction and recovery topics as well as group and individual therapy.
The treatment team at Recovery Works includes CADCs and MSWs and a psychiatric nurse practitioner who can provide dual diagnosis support. Clients in need of a higher level of treatment for mental health diagnoses may be transported to a nearby mental health clinic for psychiatric appointments.
Therapy uses CBT and the 12-step framework, and clients attend facilitated AA/NA meetings on-site three to four times each week. Experiential therapy is also included in the weekly schedule, including yoga and pet therapy.
Extras
Aftercare planning starts early in each resident’s stay, and RWC helps clients locate outpatient programs and sober living facilities that work for their location, budget and recovery goals. Families are encouraged to take an active role in treatment and are invited to take part in family education workshops, a “recovery lunch” and visiting hours each Sunday.
In Summary
Recovery Works Columbus provides detox and residential treatment that uses both evidence based therapy and the 12-step framework. Its tasteful atmosphere and family activities ensure that clients feel comfortable and supported as they take their first steps in recovery, and establish a solid foundation for a happy, healthy life free of substance abuse.
