Accommodations and Food

Refocus is a lovely, comfortable environment. The facility limits occupancy to only 14 residents at any given time to ensure plenty of privacy and personal attention. The house has a gym with exercise equipment, but clients can also go for scenic walks in the area. An on-site chef prepares healthy, organic meals.

Treatment and Staff

Most clients stay at the residence for 30 to 90 days. While treatment is designed to move clients through progressive phases over the course of three months, those in need of additional support can apply to extend their stay at a reduced rate. Clients participate in group therapy daily and individual therapy as-needed. Groups use CBT and other evidence-based modalities that help clients build coping skills, handle triggers and set boundaries. Refocus does not incorporate 12-step recovery into treatment.

As residents progress, they take on additional responsibilities such as job searching and pursuing educational goals. They can also earn privileges, including passes to visit their families. Refocus provides each client with extensive case management services to help them locate vocational training and coordinate medical care. Clients with co-occurring disorders are offered specialized individual sessions for dual diagnosis support.

The treatment team consists exclusively of Master’s and PhD level counselors.

Extras

Unlike many programs, if payment is made and clients choose to leave the program early, Refocus will return the unused portion; however, there is a minimum two-week fee. Additionally, aftercare in the form of free alumni counseling is offered to graduates of the program indefinitely.

Based on the success of Refocus in Melbourne, the organization is in the process of opening a second facility on the nearby tropical coast of Queensland. It will continue to specialize in providing a comfortable and serene environment where people can recover in privacy and safety, away from the stress, triggers and temptations of the city.
