The Basics
Located in Rockford, Illinois, Restore Counseling and Recovery is Northern Illinois’ newest outpatient counseling center, which focuses primarily on mental health, relationship issues, gambling, substance abuse, sex addiction and other compulsive behaviors. While adolescents, adults, families and couples are welcome, Restore’s Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), called the Restore Recovery Program (RRP), is for adults 18 and up specifically trying to recover from substance abuse while also remaining gainfully employed and engaged in their family lives back home. Spiritual enhancement is at the heart of RRP, with the goal of restoring health, balance, dignity, personal strength and inner peace through a therapeutic process and the 12 steps.
Treatment and Staff
RRP is an evidence-based treatment center that offers dual diagnosis support and treats all compulsive behaviors, though it’s specifically geared towards caring for those whose primary concern is substance abuse or chemical dependency. Treatment lasts a minimum of seven weeks, though 12 is encouraged. Clients are asked to commit to at least 10 hours of treatment a week, with two-thirds of it focused on post-acute withdrawal, relapse prevention planning and the nature of addiction. The final third revolves around group therapy, which is at the core of RRP’s treatment. Clients are expected to attend at least one individual session and three 180-minute long group sessions per week, which provide both written and verbal resources as well as literature that focuses on setting personal goals and doing 12-step work.
While each client is assigned a treatment team to help them create individualized treatment plans, programs generally include a strong emphasis on educating clients thoroughly about addiction, supporting their spiritual enhancement, teaching them healthy living practices and training them in relapse prevention techniques.
RRP has a professional staff of seven consisting of licensed counselors, CSWs and CDACs. There’s one psychiatrist on staff, certified by the state of Illinois to use Suboxone in the treatment of opioid abuse, but some medical treatments are referred out to off-site doctors.
Extras
In addition to its IOP substance abuse treatment program, Restore offers a range of services including child/adolescent therapy, family/couples therapy, life coaching and Christian counseling. It also provides free aftercare, which includes one group therapy session a week for up to a year.
RRP offers flexible schedules to help meet the needs of clients with work or family commitments. And for those without private insurance, staff members can assist in figuring out eligibility and possible outside assistance. For those with insurance, RRP accepts most private carriers.
In Summary
RRP offers an individualized treatment plan for adults suffering from substance abuse, using group work, addiction education, relapse prevention and the development of the necessary tools needed to heal physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. This plus a strong 12-step approach is aimed at helping clients not only get sober and stay sober, but to better function in the world with a whole new set of skills and sober living practices.
