The Basics
Established in 2015, House of Timothy is a Christian faith-based treatment facility for young men, ages 18 to 25, in Orlando, Florida. It calls itself a residential “regeneration” program rather than a rehab, welcoming clients with behavioral and addiction issues. Treatment doesn’t use more traditional evidence-based methods, but rather focuses on the teachings of Jesus Christ.
Accommodations and Food
The House of Timothy is a low stucco ranch house in the Orlando suburbs. It can accommodate up to 10 residents who live in four dorm-style bedrooms. The rooms are comfortable but not fancy, with little more than bunk beds and storage. During down time, residents enjoy skateboarding in the large driveway, watching TV, using the house Wi-Fi or swimming in the back yard pool.
Residents eat together family-style and meals are balanced and nutritious, including things like rice, grilled chicken and fresh fruits and vegetables.
Treatment and Staff
Treatment typically lasts about six months, but can so for as long as one year. The target demographic is young men who are either court-ordered or at-risk of arrest because of substance abuse or other antisocial behavior. House of Timothy does not offer detox, so potential residents in need should complete this phase of treatment prior to moving in. Those with a history of violence, arson or serious developmental disabilities (IQ below 85) can not be admitted.
Daily life revolves around pastoral counseling, addiction recovery education, life skills and vocational training. Residents are also taught how to create resumes and search for jobs. House of Timothy helps clients obtain a GED if needed. While this program emphasizes Christian faith above all, staff members choose Bible readings and educational topics that are relevant to overcoming addiction and living a spiritual life.
The team at the House of Timothy includes Christian counselors and administrative staff. There are about 12 staff members, including interns. Because House of Timothy is a faith-based organization, they are exempt from obtaining state counseling certifications. As such, it does not treat clients with co-occurring disorders. It also does not facilitate 12-step.
Extras
House of Timothy escorts residents on outings, such as to the nearby theme parks or sporting events for sober fun and fellowship.
In Summary
House of Timothy could be ideal for a family seeking a highly spiritual program for their son or young men who embrace the Christian faith. While this is a Bible-based lifestyle program more than traditional addiction treatment, those who meet the target demographic will find House of Timothy a good alternative to rehab.
For safety purposes, House of Timothy does not disclose their physical address.
