The Basics
Founded in 1985, Gemeinschaft Home is a recovery oriented non-profit that provides both residential and outpatient treatment programs for men and women struggling with chemical dependency. The organization is primarily geared towards helping clients who are coming out of correctional facilities transition back into society.
Accommodations and Food
While outpatient care is available for both men and women, the organization’s residential track is exclusively for men and has a total of 44 beds. Residents stay in rooms that house two and eight clients, with basic accommodations including twin beds, dressers and shared closet space. The home itself is an expansive country manor and common areas include a living room with cable TV, dining rooms and a full kitchen. Breakfast food items are provided but residents are expected to prepare this meal for themselves. Lunch and dinner are cooked by on-staff chefs.
Treatment and Staff
Although the Gemeinschaft Home functions somewhat like a sober living, the facility also provides extensive treatment services based on ten core principles, which include relapse prevention, conflict resolution and cognitive development. While each resident is required to seek employment, they must also attend regular group and individual therapy and take part in case management. Sessions are held twice a day, four days a week, for a minimum of 90 days. All residents are also required to attend 12-step meetings during their stay.
The staff at Gemeinschaft House consists of physicians, Master’s-level drug and alcohol therapists, case managers and house supervisors. While there is some medical supervision and consultation available, programming does not fully incorporate treatment for dual diagnosis issues at this time.
Extras
Gemeinschaft Home also offers outpatient treatment to men and women with a similar structure to the residential track, both designed for people who are reintegrating into society after incarceration. While self-referred clients are welcome, Gemeinschaft Home is contracted with the Department of Corrections and provides treatment for free for those who qualify. Life coaching services are also available.
In Summary
Overall, Gemeinschaft Home provides hybrid of residential treatment and sober living for men, in addition to a co-ed outpatient track. All treatment is 12-step based and community-oriented, with an emphasis on helping clients build life skills and a solid foundation for productivity and sobriety after jail time. While somewhat of a niche option, Gemeinschaft Home remains a strong resource for those who qualify.
