The Basics
Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, Essence of Hope is a multi-faceted recovery organization that provides sober living and community reintegration services to adults. In addition to offering permanent sober housing to those in long-term recovery, the facility also offers sober apartments with more supervision to men and women in early recovery.
Accommodations and Amenities
Across all its locations, Essence of Hope accommodates 80 people in recovery, with 12 to 15 beds reserved as permanent housing solutions for women and their children. The remaining are split evenly between men and women in two to three-bedroom apartments. The men’s residences can accommodate four to five clients, while the women’s homes can host two to three each. Units includes shared bathrooms, common living areas with cable TV and a kitchenette. All residents are expected to prepare their own meals.
Rules and Regulations
All residents must obey basic house behavioral contracts and attend house meetings, in addition to four off-site 12-step meetings a week. Throughout the program, residents are also required to meet with their assigned case manager, where they can address topics such as treatment for those with co-occurring disorders, and attend in-house groups that cover relapse prevention and life skills training.
All apartments are overseen by on-site house managers who perform bed checks and drug tests. While clients are encouraged to seek employment, it is not a strict requirement. While duration of the program is flexible, residents typically stay for a minimum of 90 days.
Extras
In addition to the above, the facility runs a food pantry that collects and donates goods to those in local community who are in need. Specialized recovery programs are also available for clients seeking employment; this includes help with resume writing and interviewing skills. Criminal re-entry programs and programs for homeless veterans are also offered.
In Summary
Overall, Essence of Hope is an expansive organization that provides a continuum of care for men and women in need of sober housing. Support is primarily 12-step based and flexible enough to meet clients wherever they are in recovery. For those in the area seeking a structured sober living with an ongoing treatment component, Essence of Hope is a resource worth considering.
