The Basics
Oxford House Crenshaw Court provides sober living for adult men who are new in recovery and seeking a clean and sober living environment. Located in a new development in Middleton, Delaware and situated on a quiet cul-de-sac, Crenshaw Court offers independent living under the umbrella of the Oxford House network—an international group of sober living homes.
Accommodations and Amenities
The Crenshaw Court house is a tidy two-story colonial style town home in a new development within walking distance to a golf course and recreation center. The house has six bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and dining area. The kitchen has a side by side refrigerator, conventional oven, microwave and dishwasher.
Accommodating twelve women, all bedrooms are double occupancy and are furnished with twin beds, nightstands and a shared dresser. Wi-Fi, cable and a house phone are included in the rent, which is paid weekly. Residents are responsible for their own food and personal items. Laundry facilities are provided and all soap and cleaning supplies are included.
Rules and Regulations
Eligible candidates must have 30 days sober and be gainfully employed. Interviews are facilitated by the house president, who per Oxford House guidelines is elected by the residents. After the initial interview, house members must unanimously approve any new client. There is no smoking inside the house and visitors are allowed in common areas only. Random urine tests are conducted and any client testing positive has 30 minutes to pack up and leave the house.
Mandatory house meetings are held Monday evenings at 10 pm. In addition to weekly chore assignments, the men are responsible for cleaning up after themselves. Curfew is at 10 pm Sundays through Thursdays and 11 pm on weekends for the first 30 days. After the probationary period, residents are permitted to stay out for 48 hours.
Untypical of most Oxford House sober living homes, the women are required to attend a minimum of three AA/NA meetings per week with house slips signed by the meeting secretary.
Extras
Crenshaw Court participates in the monthly Oxford House gathering, where Oxford Houses members within a 25 mile radius gather for a day of fellowship.
In Summary
The Crenshaw Court house offers a sober living environment for women looking to develop autonomy while surrounded by peers who are also new to sobriety. While the house is independently run, in keeping with Oxford House traditions there is enough structure to foster a safe sober environment. This affordable home is ideal for women who are ready to build a new sober life on the foundation of fellowship and accountability.
