The Basics
With headquarters located in the small Northern California community of Yuba City, Pathways was established in 1974. It serves men and women struggling with addiction through individualized treatment programs, group and individual therapy and the 12 steps. Pathways is CARF-accredited and offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) and step-down outpatient treatment that includes a long-term aftercare.
Treatment and Staff
The PHP and IOP are designed to be a step down from either residential or detox programs, and the path of each client begins with an assessment to determine the level of care needed. Regardless of whether the client enters from an inpatient treatment, an individualized plan is implemented with a structured schedule of counseling and relapse prevention education.
The PHP is the most intensive of the programs and runs six days a week, Monday through Saturday, from 9 am to 4 pm and includes lunch daily. The IOP has two options: a six-week program of five days a week of therapy or a 10-week program that meets three times a week. These tracks offer group therapy in three-hour chunks. The standard outpatient treatment is a 10-week process of clients meeting three times a week for one hour each. For the most part, these programs are fairly flexible and the staff is able to tailor programs to accommodate work or school schedules.
The treatment is comprised of AA and NA support meetings and CBT. There are frequent educational lectures and connection to outside support communities. In addition to the regular schedule of group counseling, weekly or bi-weekly individual sessions are offered. While Pathways only treat clients whose primary diagnosis is substance abuse, there is a medical staff that can facilitate medication management for co-occurring disorders.
The staff of Pathways includes CADC, CAC, case managers and physicians.
Extras
There is a 52-week aftercare program offered free of charge for all clients who successfully complete the outpatient treatment program. It also offers family and couples counseling, a Friday Family program, and DUI classes.
In Summary
Pathways’ outpatient options provides a structured schedule of treatment options that are individualized to each client’s specific needs. The staff brings their hands-on experience working in the addiction field to their clients, and aims to take the stigma out of substance abuse treatment.
