The Basics
Sober Living Outpatient is a substance abuse treatment program for men and women in Delray Beach, Florida. As the name suggests, the treatment model includes structured outpatient therapy in conjunction with gender-specific sober living. Clients of all ages are welcome but the program is most popular with those aged 21 to 35.
It was founded in 2012 by business partners David Kolker and George Jahn, who both have years of personal and professional experience in the substance abuse field and felt something was missing from the local treatment landscape. With a focus on addressing the underlying issues related to addiction, Sober Living Outpatient employs evidence-based treatment in conjunction with family counseling.
Treatment and Staff
Many clients come to Sober Living Outpatient having completed a residential program at one of South Florida’s many rehabs but some choose it as their first choice as an alternative to traditional inpatient treatment.
After an initial assessment and evaluation, counselors develop an individualized treatment plan for each client to determine the frequency and type of therapy best suited to them. Therapists use CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in addition to offering specialized sessions geared towards dual diagnosis support, PTSD, trauma and mood disorders. Clients are encouraged to attend 12-step meetings and some of the principles are incorporated, but the program’s creators feel strongly that treatment should be therapy—not just an school for the 12 steps, since those programs are free. Treatment consists mostly of groups, with individual and family therapy scheduled as needed.
Sober Living Outpatient offers a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) designed for clients who aren’t working and need rigorous structured treatment. Its runs Monday through Friday from 9 am to 3 pm. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed to be a step down from PHP and consists of three groups a week, for three hours each, Monday through Friday. Sessions are offered in the evening in order to accommodate work or school schedules.
The team at Sober Living Outpatient consists of a LMFT, LCSWs and support staff.
Extras
Sober Living Outpatient offers aftercare that consists of monthly alumni groups and individual sessions as needed.
Clients have the option to live in one of six gender-specific residences in the Delray Beach area during treatment. There are two houses for women and four for men. Clients are paired in furnished double occupancy rooms, mainly consisting of twin beds, dressers and closets. There are a few rooms with bunk beds but most are spacious. All of the bedrooms include heaters, air conditioners and TVs.
Each house has its own fully-equipped kitchen. While clients are responsible for their own groceries, there is a shelf stocked with basic food items. Amenities include a swimming pool, fireplace, exercise equipment, washing machine, dryer, Wi-Fi, house computers, landlines with free long distance, movie channels and utilities. Transportation is provided to and from the treatment facility.
In Summary
