The Basics
Based out of Trenton, New Jersey, Rescue Mission of Trenton is a community-oriented organization that offers an array of services to locals. Aside from its outpatient treatment programs, it also provides a three-stage residential treatment program called Vince’s Place that is geared towards clients who are homeless. The program also includes halfway housing.
Accommodations and Food
Vince’s Place is a 75-bed facility that houses clients in large group rooms. Accommodations are relatively basic with limited space for personal belongings (generally under client’s bed) and shared bathrooms. Residents are given three meals a day served cafeteria-style.
Treatment and Staff
After an initial assessment, clients work with staff members to develop an individualized treatment plan. While the organization accepts walk-in clients, those court-ordered to attend need a referral from the criminal justice system.
The first phase of the program is a 180-day treatment plan that includes individual and group therapy, addiction education and regular 12-step participation. Treatment uses evidence-based practices, including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), with flexible case management services also available.
Adjacent programs for clients who have completed primary care include halfway houses and extended care programs. These also require 12-step participation but with a greater focus on teaching life skills and helping clients seek and secure employment.
The staff consists of MSWs, CADCs, LPCs and additional Master’s-level clinicians.
Extras
Additional services include a soup kitchen, emergency services and referrals for further care. The organization also offers permanent housing solutions for those who were previously homeless. A full list of services can be found on its website.
In Summary
Overall, Rescue Mission of Trenton’s is a solid, long-term treatment option aimed primarily at homeless and court-ordered clients. Treatment is evidence-based and includes 12-step support, however, those with co-occurring disorders may need to seek additional treatment. Still, for clients in need of an affordable addiction recovery program, Rescue Mission of Trenton is a valuable resource.
