The Basics
Genesis Treatment Services was founded in 2008 in the northern Maryland town of Westminster. The CARF-accredited organization offers outpatient substance abuse treatment to adults with opiate addiction.
Treatment and Staff
Perspective clients have an initial phone assessment with an intake coordinator to determine if he or she is a good fit for the program. The next step is an in-person assessment where counselor and client discuss substance abuse history and determine the necessary level of care. If deemed a good fit for Genesis, counselors then creates an individualized treatment plan. Those who are unstable or going through withdrawal will be referred to an outside residential or detox program.
Genesis offers a therapeutic Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) to clients who are receiving Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT), which utilizes methadone and Suboxone. The length and intensity of the program is based on counselor assessment. Treatment uses education, sharing, relapse prevention techniques and some CBT in group and individual sessions. Client are also regularly drug tested. While not 12-step based, Genesis often recommends that clients attend local AA/NA meetings. Those with co-occurring disorders are referred to outside mental health providers.
Staff consists of CSACs and licensed nurse practitioners.
