The Basics

For those who want it all when it comes to sober living, Taylor Recovery Center is more than worth considering. Just outside of downtown Houston, Texas, TRC boasts a 22,000 square foot campus complete with well-groomed grounds and basketball courts. Though the facility offers luxury, its long list of services and holistic approach ensure that maintaining sobriety and staying healthy are the top priorities.

Accommodations and Amenities

There are several options to choose from for TRC clients, namely two-bedroom 700 square-foot apartments for up to three residents, private and semi-private rooms and single-occupancy luxury units. Each has wood floors, granite countertops, tiled kitchens, a dining room table, full-sized beds, flat screen TVs with cable access, free Wi-Fi and living areas with comfortable couches and chairs.

Meals are provided three times a day by the full-time chef on staff who can accommodate any special dietary needs or requests. There is also a free on-site laundry facility and weekly housekeeping services.

The gated grounds hold a dog park, basketball courts, meditation areas, relaxation areas with hammocks and a fire pit. The clubhouse is available for social gatherings, as well as for activities such as yoga classes or movie screenings. Gym memberships are included with admission to TRC.

Rules and Regulations

Although TRC does not enforce rules or guidelines like most sober livings, they do offer a variety of services for their clients’ continued recovery including on-site 12-step meetings, access to Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselors (LCDCs), therapists, scheduling and time management, recovery coaching, relapse prevention, random drug testing, transportation services and referrals to health professionals such as physicians, dentists or nutritionists.

TRC’s holistic approach to recovery includes meditation and yoga classes in clients’ schedules to encourage a mind-body connection. Although all are encouraged to make their own decisions in their recovery process to prepare them for sober daily life, individualized plans are developed for each client to maximize their time at the facility.

Extras

In addition to being dog-friendly—a rare find in sober living homes—TRC arranges frequent outings and activities for their clients including softball games, surfing and beach trips, kayaking ventures and more.

Taylor Recovery Center is much more than just a sober living home. The facility truly allows clients autonomy by granting them their own private apartments. The full time chef and higher-end accommodations justify the elevated price tag, as does the access to additional treatment services such as on-site 12-step meetings, meetings with therapists and counselors and recovery coaching. In all, TRC provides more than ample sobriety support to residents on the road to recovery.
