The Basics

Elevate Recovery Center was founded in 2011 in Orange, California, just a few blocks from the beach. It provides detox, residential and outpatient substance abuse treatment to adult men and women.

Accommodations and Food

Elevate’s inpatient program consists of two programs: Community, which is a highly structured residential environment, and Elevate, a less-structured, step-down program. Both are run out of apartment-style facilities located next to each other.

Both Community and Elevate have a total of 40 beds each; 20 dedicated to men and 20 to women. The apartments consist of single units based on double occupancy. Each client is provided with a twin bed, nightstand and a small amount of closet space for their belongings.

Community’s building is equipped with a gym and a volleyball court and Elevate’s facility has an indoor basketball court, gym and pool. Community does not permit clients to bring in any outside electronics, while clients in Elevate can have a cell phone and even a small pet if they wish. Smoking is allowed in both facilities.

All food is provided and consists of three catered meals a day served cafeteria-style. Snacks are available throughout the day in the facility’s kitchen.

Treatment and Staff

The intake process begins with a phone interview followed by an in-person meeting with a counselor so that level of care can be determined. For clients with financial limitations, the organization offers partial scholarships.

Clients in need are referred to the detox wing, which can accommodate up to six males and six females for a full medical detox. Length of this phase varies. The on-staff doctor prescribes medication and monitors progress.

The main residential program, Community, usually lasts for 30 to 60 days and consists of group and individual therapy, with sessions from 9am to 3:30pm daily. Counselors use a variety of treatment techniques including sharing, education, CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI). The organization also offers relapse prevention meetings and gender-specific groups. Individual counseling is scheduled as needed.

When clients complete treatment at Community, they can step-down to the Elevate program, which can last anywhere between 30 to 90 days. The treatment is nearly identical to that of Community except much less intense, with group sessions in the mornings only. Counselors use the afternoons and evenings to help clients begin planning for life after treatment.

The organization also offers an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) for clients who have completed one of Elevate’s residential tracks. It consists of group and individual therapy, three to five days a week. Sessions are similar to that of the residential programs yet focus primarily on relapse prevention. Individual counseling is scheduled as needed.

Clients with a dual diagnosis are offered additional individual and group therapy with a mental health counselor and an on-staff psychiatrist is available to prescribe medication, if needed. Though the organization is not 12-step based, counselors do regularly discuss the benefits of attending outside AA/NA meetings.

Staff is comprised of LADCs and LACs.

Extras

Elevate also offers individual family sessions with the client, counselor and their family members, but only with client consent. Case management services are available to assist clients with applying for jobs.

Although Elevate does not offer any official aftercare program, the organization has strong relationships with local halfway houses and refers clients to these if they want to continue living in a secure, sober environment. Also, Elevate facilitates an alumni group that meets regularly.

In Summary

Elevate Recovery Center offers both individualized and comprehensive residential treatment to adult men and women. The structured step-down from the Community to Elevate residential program provides clients with a gradual and seamless transition in their level of care. Detox and IOP options are added benefits to seeking recovery through Elevate.
