ppepThe Basics

Located in Tucson, Arizona, PPEP is one of the largest mental health agencies in the state. Founded by Dr. John David Arnold, PPEP was originally a mobile behavioral health and education facility operated out of a refurbished bus in 1967. Since then, it has grown to have over 550 employees in a stationary treatment facility that offers outpatient substance abuse treatment and DUI services. The programs provide adolescents and adults with evidence-based counseling and relapse prevention techniques.

Treatment and Staff

PPEP offers comprehensive treatment that implements a variety of individualized services with different levels of care and programs, including a dual diagnosis track with medication management facilitated by a psychiatrist. Group and individual sessions that use therapy and education address the physical effects of substance abuse over a period of time, as well as exploring the environmental and genetic aspects of addiction. Some of PPEP’s clientele are referred by the court system, and the staff is able to provide all communications and satisfy any requirements needed for a DUI.

The addiction program uses evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI), as well as EMDR for trauma. Counselors provide a safe environment and achievable treatment goals for every client. Assessments throughout the program evaluate individual progress and allow for any necessary adjustment along the way. PPEP also offers classes on relapse prevention, parenting skills and anger management, as well as diversion and domestic violence programs as well. Treatment aims to address past traumas or issues that may have led to the current addiction in addition to developing tools to enhance communication and support healthier choices in relationships, family and work.

Staff is comprised of Master’s-level and licensed clinicians with accreditations that include LPC, LCDC, LMSW and LPN. Additionally, a majority of the staff are bi-lingual in English and Spanish.

Extras

Additional services include family and couples counseling, as well as school-based and home-based options for adolescents.

In Summary

PPEP offers affordable, client-focused care that treats the person as a whole rather than a one-size-fits-all approach. There are many different program options and resources available in addition to helpful tools aiming to guide clients into a healthier life of recovery.
