The Basics
The North Florida Comprehensive Treatment Center opened its doors in 2015 to provide outpatient Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for opioid addicts in Jacksonville, Florida. Located in the Southpoint neighborhood, North Florida CTC offers treatment plans using Subutex and methadone and asks clients to participate in group and individual therapy while receiving their medication doses.
Under the Acadia Healthcare umbrella, the North Florida Comprehensive Treatment Center is included among an expansive international group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
After clients are assessed, they and the treatment team determine which course of MAT best suits their needs: methadone or Subutex. Clients then receive a dosing schedule which includes a plan for applying for take-home doses according to state regulations, currently permitted after 90 days of successful treatment.
Group therapy is optional once clients have been admitted to the program, but North Florida CTC recommends that all clients attend group therapy at least once a week. Clients must participate in individual therapy, with frequency depending on their needs and progress.
North Florida CTC’s treatment team is made up of physicians, nurses and CACs. Counselors use evidence-based treatment methods including CBT and Motivational Interviewing (MI) in group therapy to explore topics including relationship skills, handling triggers and the disease of addiction. Counselors address co-occurring disorders in therapy but refer clients in need of comprehensive dual diagnosis support to nearby mental health clinics. The center encourages clients to attend NA, Methadone Anonymous or other peer support meetings in the community.
North Florida CTC hopes that all of its clients will eventually not need MAT, and it works with them to create a treatment plan that culminates in tapering. However, clients are not pressured to taper on any set time-line.
Extras
North Florida CTC encourages clients to invite their families to attend individual therapy if they and their counselor think it would be beneficial. It also hosts a dedicated therapy group for the spouses of clients.
In Summary
North Florida Comprehensive Treatment Center offers responsive outpatient treatment to Jacksonville’s opioid addicts. The treatment team customizes therapy schedules and encourages family participation, making North Florida Comprehensive Treatment Center an appealing option for those who want to improve their support system and become less vulnerable to relapse.
