The Basics
Quinault Indian Nation’s Chemical Dependency Program was founded in 1960 in Tahola, Washington on the Quinault Reservation, a large reservation in the southwestern corner of the Olympic Peninsula. The organization offers outpatient services for adult men and women with a primary diagnosis of substance use disorder.
Treatment and Staff
Those interested in Quinault initially undergo a phone assessment with an intake coordinator to determine if he or she is a good fit for the program. If they decide to move forward, they then meet with a counselor to determine their level of need and chart out a potential treatment plan. Although a Native American-based organization, Quinault treats clients from all backgrounds and accepts both Medicaid and private insurance. Clients going through withdrawal will be referred to outside residential or detox facilities; however, the program does offer Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT).
Quinault’s Chemical Dependency Program consists of both an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) as well as a standard track. Although the exact length and intensity of the program is based on the counselor assessment, the IOP meets three to four days a week for group sessions while the standard outpatient meets one to two days a week.
Treatment consists of group and individual counseling that aims to address individual needs and use education, sharing, relapse prevention and some CBT. Individual therapy is scheduled on an as-needed basis. Counselors use the 12 steps and encourage clients to attend outside AA and NA meetings and find a sponsor while in treatment.
Quinault does not offer dual diagnosis support and refers clients with potential co-occurring disorders to outside mental health providers.
The staff are all certified chemical dependency professionals.
Extras
Quinault offers special groups for adolescents in the afternoons and evenings to accommodate academic schedules. Although the organization does not have a family program, counselors often refer loved ones to outside Alanon groups.
Additional services include DUI evaluations as well as group and individual therapy for clients on Suboxone treatment.
In Summary
Quinault Indian Nation Chemical Dependency Program provides a diverse range of outpatient services with an integration of the 12-step recovery principles and some evidence-based group therapy. Additional programs for youth and family, and therapy geared specifically toward those receiving MAT, round this facility out to be a viable option for treatment in the area it serves.
