Palm Springs CaliforniaThe Basics

Desert Comprehensive Treatment Center (DCTC) in Palm Springs, California is an outpatient treatment facility offering Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) for adult men and women who are struggling with opioid addiction. Alongside MAT, DCTC also caters to the physical and emotional aspects of their addictive behavior by offering therapeutic services.

As a member of the Acadia Healthcare network, Desert Comprehensive Treatment Center is just one of many behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.

Treatment and Staff

Prior to enrollment into treatment at DCTC, clients must display dependence on opioids and must have completed detox within 24 hours since last use (this guideline omits clients who are currently pregnant). In addition, potential clients must be prepared to bring a urine sample for drug screening, must have permission to receive treatment if they are on probation or parole and must bring any current prescriptions so that doctors can review them. Clients must also bring proof of insurance if they intend on using it to pay for treatment.

DCTC’s admissions process consists of a full physical, a TB test (if not completed within the last two years), a pregnancy test, all the required paperwork that details treatment and medical history and other important information that will help develop the client’s treatment plan.

Treatment at DCTC combines MAT using methadone, subutex or Suboxone with therapy. The specific medication and dosage is prescribed depending on the clients’ individualized treatment. Changes to medication can be accommodated throughout the course of treatment as clients progress in recovery.

Depending on their unique plans, clients may attend group and individual therapy anywhere from once a week to once a month. Treatment is not specifically 12-step oriented, but the principles are discussed in addition to other therapeutic modalities. DCTC also offers dual diagnosis support. Staff utilizes evidence-based methods of treatment and focus on relieving the effects of stress, abuse, trauma and any existing mood disorders. Clients develop tools to cope with feelings of isolation and develop self-understanding. In the group setting, men and women develop new techniques and strategies to cultivate hope, a sense of fitting in and catharsis.

DCTC has 12 staff members including a medical doctor who comes twice a week in addition to CACs and RNs.

In Summary

Desert Treatment Comprehensive Center helps men and women combat opioid abuse and addiction with MAT and counseling services. The staff creates an individual treatment plan for each individual based on their unique needs that addresses the physical and emotional elements of their addiction. A wide range of topics are discussed on a group level to support the emotional and mental aspects of recovery.
