The Basics
For over 25 years, Cedar Crest Hospital has been providing inpatient substance abuse treatment in Belton, a small city in Central Texas. In the last two years, it has begun offering outpatient treatment at the Partial-Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) levels of care.
Under the Acadia Healthcare umbrella, Cedar Crest Hospital is included among an expansive international group of behavioral health facilities providing chemical dependency and therapeutic support. With its headquarters in Franklin, Tennessee, Acadia serves communities across the country and in the UK with inpatient, residential, outpatient and school-based treatment programs.
Treatment and Staff
Clients are admitted to outpatient treatment at either the PHP or IOP level. PHP clients attend treatment from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday where they participate in daily group therapy and psychoeducation classes. They also attend individual therapy at least once a week. Most clients complete their PHP treatment plan in two to four weeks. Many then step down to the IOP.
IOP groups are scheduled Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, though most will only attend group therapy for a portion of that time. IOP clients also have individual therapy once a week and usually complete their treatment plan in two to four weeks.
The treatment team at Cedar Crest includes physicians, nurses and Master’s-level therapists such as LPCs. Most therapists are dually-certified as LCDCs. Therapy groups uses solutions-focused modalities, such as CBT and the 12-step framework. While clients aren’t required to attend 12-step or other peer support meetings as part of their treatment plans, they are strongly encouraged to do so.
Cedar Crest also employs an art therapist and recreational therapist to provide experiential therapy each week. IOP and PHP clients have access to the psychiatrists and nursing staff in the hospital’s behavioral health department for comprehensive dual diagnosis support.
In addition to the adult IOP and PHP, Cedar Crest offers an adolescent PHP. Young clients attend treatment from 8 am to 4 pm daily, usually for four weeks. During that time, they attend four hours of school each day on-site through a partnership with a University of Texas charter school. They then participate in treatment activities for the remainder of the day.
