Mission Viejo CaliforniaThe Basics

Founded in 2016 by David Des Rochers in Mission Viejo, California, Our Place Sober Living provides family-style luxury sober living for men. Des Rochers boasts an impressive resume. He once played professional football for the NFL, had an acting career, as well as over 20 years of financial experience. After selling his business, he decided to open up a sober living home so that he could be of service to men in early recovery.

Accommodations and Amenities

Our Place is a huge 3,250 square foot house located at the corner of a quiet residential street. The house includes a spacious backyard with a pool. The exterior includes trees, shrubbery and purple bougainvillea vines, which provide bursts of color. The greenery in front of the house offers a sense of privacy. The interior boasts wood tiled floors and contemporary furnishings. Our Place accommodates about eight men, who are lodged in double or private rooms, which include full sized beds, spacious closets, hanging artwork, wooden armoires, night stands and lamps. Amenities include Wi-Fi, cable TV and a laundry room with a washer, dryer and sink. Smoking is permitted outside in designated areas only.

The fully equipped kitchen includes cherry wood cabinets and a kitchen island. While residents are essentially responsible for their own groceries and meal preparation, staple food items are supplied. Barbeques are also offered so that residents can build camaraderie. Clients are asked to label their food and beverage items. A house manager lives on the premises and provides ample support.

Rules and Regulations

Potential clients undergo an interview with staff to ensure that Our Place Sober Living is a good fit. Typically, residents arrive at Our Place after completing a residential treatment program, but others are accepted on a case-by-case basis. All men must have undergone detox.

Requirements are simple. Clients must attend regular 12-step meetings, have attendance slips signed by the meeting’s secretary and be at the weekly house meeting. They must look for work, volunteer, attend an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) or go to school. These activities are mandated so that residents can gain a sense of fulfillment. Daily and weekly house chores are assigned. Daily tasks must be completed by noon, while weekly chores must be finished by Saturdays at noon. Keeping the house clean, and maintaining order also helps clients feel good about their environment, which helps their recovery. The curfew is 11 pm Sundays through Thursdays, and 12 am on weekends.

Our Place is a zero tolerance residence. Random drug and alcohol screenings are conducted. Depending on the situation, residents who relapse go to a detox facility and stay there until they test clean before returning to the house or they are evicted, and are not allowed to return until they pass an alcohol and drug screening.

Extras

Our Place Sober Living is a member of the Orange County Sober Living Coalition, which demands high living standards from its affiliates.

For men seeking a high end, homey sober living, Our Place would be a great match. This gorgeous home is located in close proximity to a plethora of 12-step meetings. Residents should have no problem connecting to the local 12-step community and getting on track while living at Our Place.
